Problem Statement

Retail investors (ages 25-40) want to do their own research but lack the frameworks Wall Street analysts take for granted. Existing tools like Simply Wall St, Seeking Alpha, and Finviz are either too data-dense, too jargon-heavy, or too expensive. There's no tool that translates complex analysis into plain English narratives that are easy to understand and easy to share socially.

Target User

Self-directed retail investors aged 25-40 using Robinhood, Schwab, or Fidelity. Active on FinTwit and Reddit investing communities. They know P/E ratios exist but can't interpret a 10-K. Their core pain point: "I want to do my own research but don't know where to start."

Key Decisions

1. Chose "stories, not spreadsheets" as the core positioning — narrative-first over data-first 2. Prioritized the Simple Analogy feature as the viral hook over building comprehensive data coverage 3. Went with pre-generated content (batch via Claude API) rather than real-time analysis to control quality and cost 4. Built on Next.js + Supabase + Financial Modeling Prep API for speed as a solo developer

Learnings

1. Compelling analogies must work in text before any video enhancement adds value 2. Market timing around earnings catalysts (like NVIDIA Q4) drives peak engagement 3. Premature optimization is the enemy
